AI-powered Humane Ai Pin-style iMessage summary feature said to be included in iOS 18

Since Apple CEO Tim Cook has repeatedly stated that the business is developing generative AI features, there have been a lot of reports circulating regarding iOS 18 containing new AI-powered features. According to a source, users of iPhones and iPads will soon have the ability to employ AI to summarize lengthy text messages.

iOS 18 will condense SMS messages

AppleInsider claims to have confirmed this information with people who are familiar with the software, and that its generative AI will be able to summarize lengthy texts. According to the report, the AI is able to identify "all available relevant information," including names, addresses, and businesses that are mentioned in the text.

The paper states that the program will probably identify a name as belonging to the document's author if it occurs at the top of the text. According to the website, aside from using data from Messages and Safari, the summary tool may also be able to utilize any text field or digital document.

The iOS 17.4 code contained signs of a new framework known as "SiriSummary," which 9to5Mac discovered earlier this year. A new "Safari Browsing Assistant" feature in iOS 18 that will probably highlight the most important content on a webpage was previously hinted at in a report from another leaker.

In addition to working with OpenAI and Google to license their technologies for iOS 18, Apple has been creating its own language model to run entirely offline. However, using Apple's Ajax language format, the summary functionality for Messages and Safari will function fully offline, according to sources provided to AppleInsider.

A language model operating entirely offline ensures quicker replies and increased privacy because all processing takes place locally on the device, negating the need to send data to external servers.

Additional information about Apple's AI

Tim Cook hinted at Apple's impending generative AI technology once more on a Thursday investor call, adding that the business had an advantage over rivals. He claims that when it comes to artificial intelligence, Apple will stand out from the competition thanks to its "unique combination of seamless hardware, software, and services integration."
