According to a new report, Apple plans to mass produce a 20.3-inch foldable device by late 2025, but the foldable iPhone won't happen until much later.
When it comes to revealing a line of gadgets with distinctive form factors, the foldable iPhone won't be Apple's first release. Alternatively, a recent source asserts that the business would begin mass producing a foldable hybrid by late 2025, raising the possibility that we could see a device that combines an iPad and a MacBook. Given that the most recent evidence indicates that the gadget has a 20.3-inch display, it is plausible that Apple is attempting to merge two distinct product categories.

A foldable iPhone will reportedly launch in two display sizes and is said to arrive in 2026
9to5Mac discovered a recent investor letter from analyst Jeff Pu that discusses the mass manufacturing of a foldable hybrid with a large display. This is not the first time that the development of such a device has been considered; analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has previously brought it up. But according to Kuo's forecast, this foldable hybrid won't be available until much later in 2027. Strangely enough, Kuo made no mention of a foldable iPhone although this was the only device that was supposedly in the development plan.
Thankfully, Pu disagrees, predicting that Apple's primary source of income in 2026 will come in a new form factor. There are rumors that the foldable iPhone would come with two display sizes: 7.9 inches and 8.3 inches. Apple has reportedly been working on multiple foldable iPhone prototypes in the past, but because to durability concerns, the company has been reluctant to release the device. The business is also concerned about design flaws, including the obvious crease we've seen in all of the foldables that have been released in recent years.
Finally, consumers may be turned off by the foldable iPhone's exorbitant price and return to the "candy bar" physical shape. A smaller device would have a higher point of failure, therefore Apple might be pressing forward with a foldable hybrid launch first. Furthermore, because iPhones are so popular around the world, Apple would have to give more replacements if there were more defective goods, which would hurt the company's reputation and total income.

We won't urge you to hold your breath, though, if you're anxiously waiting for the release of a foldable hybrid, as Apple takes a very long time to catch up with its rivals in terms of technological advancement. Recall that Apple has not yet released a smartphone that is even somewhat similar to the first foldable smartphone that Samsung unveiled in 2019.
